Ripoffs of the Floral Variety
Fender's pink paisley, most associated with Telecasters, is one of those "shouldn't be popular but totally is" finishes. I'll admit to wanting one, Strat or Tele. For those unfamiliar, here's a MIJ Pasiley Strat:
As you may also be aware, Chinese counterfeiting is becoming an increasingly serious problem, particularly with Les Pauls. The problem really lies with how good Chinese factories are getting at replicating high end American made instruments. There are quite a few YouTube channels that review Chinese fakes, and the results are... Well I'm not sure impressive is the right word, but yeah, impressive.
This one is the opposite of that.

Behold! Grandma's Curtains!
I honestly don't know what else to call this. Seller calls it a "replica", as if some loving tribute, rather than a poorly executed violation of international copyright law. It doesn't take a sharp eye to notice the most glaring issue - Instead of copying the classic Fender Paisley, someone sent them a scan of Grandma's curtains and said "close enough".
Curtains... Close enough... I had something for this. |
I'm not sure which part is worse - the inability to match the pattern, or the Pepto Bismol pink spray paint they used to create the "burst". I could have done a better job. The pattern itself is actually cool if you ask me. I could see Crook Custom using this pattern on something for Brad Paisley, though more likely to be seen on a Don Cherry suit methinks.

It get's worse though. Check out the headstock:
Ask your doctor if Cialis... Wait, does your headstock have cancer? |
Mesmerizing, isn't it? The longer you stare, the more you question China's commitment to high quality knockoffs. Beyond the "Made in USA" under the logo being the wrong font and too big, the shape of the headstock is wrong. We don't even need to get into the fact that real Fender Paisley reissues come out of Japan; only the originals were made in the good old USA.
Here's a real USA Strat headstock for reference:
The lack of attention to detail is staggering, and really isn't fair to China... They make way better forgeries than this. They also make great guitars that aren't knockoffs. Don't hate China. Hate the guy who doesn't avail himself of the numerous new and used guitars available that don't violate international copyright law.
Seller is asking $300. Good luck. $50 to hang it on the wall as a warning to all who pass would be too much.
