Painting the Green Monster

We made some progress over the weekend with the Vantage Super Strat repaint.  While refinishing a guitar seems daunting, if you have a cheap one you're not worried about it ends up being alot of fun.

Obviously we're not worrying about nitro this or that.  Craft store and Home Depot stuff is good enough for us!  Some far we have:
  1. Disassembled the guitar
  2. Sanded it again to smooth the terrible job I did last time.
  3. Resprayed Lime Green
  4. Taped
  5. Painted with Purple
We ended up buying acrylic paint at Walmart.  Neon purple and pink, as per the young artists instructions.  She was pretty clear that the upper bout of the guitar should be a star shape, while the rest should be anything.

Unfortunately, and obviously, the way I taped it meant that the star would be in green, not purple. Oops.

Here is the body completely painted and  ready to be hung to dry.  Obviously we weren't too concerned with perfections here, but we wanted to maintain a clean pattern.  The free form stuff will come later.

Here it is the next morning.  The paint bled, but the effect is actually pretty cool.  While the above pic makes me think of Cesar Romero as the Joker, the one below makes me think Donatello (the Ninja Turtle obviously).

Can wait to continue.  Next will be neon pink stripes, followed by reflective jewel stickers, and finally clear coat.  We've agreed that when finished it will hang in her new room.

That's pretty cool.
