Blame Video Games - Returning for a Roundup

Everyone goes through ebbs and flows with their guitar obsession, and I'm not different.  After acquiring the rosewood Eric Johnson, and selling the Squier 51 to Henman, I went into a holding pattern on guitars.  No desire for anything new, and no desire to sell anything I own.

Also video games.  I'll admit I'm rather taken with a few video games right now (Titanfall 2 is really that good IMHO), so...

A digression - While I don't intended to turn this into a video game review site, I really have to say how impressed I am with that game.  I've been a pretty solid COD guy since COD4 (and played the original COD on by first Mac), but this is another level.  No surprise that it comes from the MW2 developers.  Everyone has been chasing their success for 10 years.

Blame Video Games.  Parents blame everything on them anyway.

Let's get back into it.

Gibson Les Paul Classic - $1900

At some point last year one of these came up and I commented on how much I liked the sea foam green on a Les Paul.  While non-traditional colors tend to do less well for resale, there's something about the classy, understated looks of this particular color which makes me think this won't be the case here.

$1900 isn't a terrible price either, but there is one wart on here that gives me pause - that stupid adjustable nut they introduced in 2015.  If not for that nut, I'd probably be making a list of guitars I could sell to come up with the money for this.

Charvel So-Cal - $800

Clearly the 6 month break from Kijiji hasn't changed my taste much - This Charvel caught my eye, and they've been something that has since last summer.  More than anything, I like the slightly more "spandex" colors these come in, combined with the control simplicity and the maple boards.

$800 seems pretty par for the course these days, but be aware - These things have maple fingerboards - not one piece maple necks. I've talked about neck construction before, and this is a great example of "huh?".  IF the neck is maple, why not use one piece and a skunk stripe?

Because that costs more.  Dummy.

Gibson Les Paul Standard - $2300

Guitar prices north of the border seem to have been getting crazy in the last 10 months, so while I'm not absolutely certain the price isn't a bit high, the seller is taking offers - typically an indicator that the seller knows that they're listing a hopeful price.

No weird brass nut, a nice top, in a desirable color (Ice Tea Burst) makes this a pretty nice option.  If this and the Sea Foam Green example above could be had for the same money, I'd likely chose this for resale alone (this is a Standard vs. the SFG Classic).  But with a $500 price gap, I'd likely chose the SFG, if not for that stupid brass nut.

Squier Bullet Strat - $99

Yes, a bit of a change of direction, but that Pepto Bismol pink is just too good to ignore.  Not sure if the black plastic parts are factory equipped or installed by the owner, but in either case they look great. Probably isn't much of a player, and it wouldn't be worth adding $400 worth of parts to bring it up to $300 Mexi-Strat territory...

But $99 PINK!
