Peavey Encore 65 1x12 Tube Combo - $250

Another Peavey tube amp from the late 80s-early 90's.  Want to guess why Peavey started to make Transtube amps?  Maybe this one is actually good?
Don't count on it.

Fender Bass Breaker 15 - $690

Ever since the introduction of this amp to the Fender range a few years ago, I've wondered how long it would take for them to start showing up on the used market. (Answer: 1 year?)
This isn't the first example I've seen - there have been a smattering of 007s here and there - but this is the first 15 I've seen.
The price is stupid here FWIW...

Mesa/Boogie Single Rectifier Recto-Verb 50 - $700

This is why the price above is absolutely ridiculous.  A Mesa Single-Rec 50 watt combo for $700?!?! No competition.

I know - Maybe you want a smaller amp that you can crank more.  Nope, sorry.  This thing will sound better "un-pushed" than the above amp will sound pushed.  Guaranteed.

This is such a nice amp for the money I'm performing mental somersaults trying to figure out how to put together the cash to pick this up and be cash neutral.

Quick Update:  Restringing the Stratocaster with the System III requires the patience of a saint.  I'm not going to go through the many stages of anger, frustration, denial, acceptance, and final victory, but suffice to say there might have been a bit of crying.  Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar I bought this guitar on a whim.  Over some holiday gathering, I went to a music store with my brother.  This caught my eye, and the price was right (Less than $300 out the door).  Sure it had issues right off the bat, but it was soooo cool. Pacifica 112 vs. Squier Standard Stratocaster

My recent Squier Standard Stratocaster has me thinking about entry level guitars, and specifically the first new electric guitar I purchased, a Yamaha Pacifica 112.  They're great guitars if you ask me, but for obvious reasons don't get the exposure a "real Stratocaster" does (as real  as a Squier can be I suppose). A comparison of the two may be apt. A Squier Stratocaster lists for $289.99 on L&M , while a new Yamaha Pacifica 112J will set you back $239.99 plus tax.  I seem to recall that the Yamaha and a hard case ran me just over $400, so we're about exactly where we were 20 years ago in terms of price.  Weird. Don't expect a comprehensive review of either guitar - that really isn't the point.  I want to talk about a few differences that indicate where your money is going and hope you can figure the rest out yourself. Boss Fender '63 Reverb Pedal Review

Years back, Boss did a run of pedals in partnership with Fender.  Two of them were "amp-in-a-box" versions of a '65 Deluxe Reverb and a '59 Bassman, but the third was a recreation of Fender's classic Spring Reverb unit, in the almost-as-classic Boss pedal format. The amp-in-a-box pedals aren't exactly coverted at the moment, and with the kind of modelling available these days, I doubt they ever will be, but hey, I've been surprised before... An aside... I really don't understand how we can go from used Digitech "Bad Monkey" overdrives going for $40 to seeing them command $200 nowadays. Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar: Trade Bait?

I bought my Squire Vintage Modified Jaguar on a weekend while visiting my parents. I had decided that I needed to get out of the house for a little while. Aside from going to the mall, there's not much more to do than visit the music store, which is all the excuse I need to wander around Long and McQuade for an hour.  This was back in the day when I still knew most of the people who worked there, including the owner. Well, I say the owner; he wasn't the owner anymore, but he WAS the owner, and then the manager prior to his retirement retirement. At any rate, I went there with my wife and poked around. I saw these Jaguars and Jazzmasters that I had recently watched reviews for on YouTube. Lee Anderton and Rob Chapman had raved about them, except for the bridge, which was the same as the original design and didn't lend itself to bending.
