Weekend Roundup - Enough with the Pedals Edition
Wampler Clarksdale Delta Overdrive - $160
I have no problem admitting that I have a minor obsession with Wampler Pedals, despite having never owned one. Brian Wampler's podcast is partly the reason, but it's mostly because I'm an avid watcher of "That Pedal Show" on YouTube, and I'm always impressed with his stuff.
Which raises a minor beef - the lads on That Pedal Show never seem to quite dig Brian's stuff. The best he get's is "yeah, X is also great", when to my ears, X sounded the best.
Don't believe me? Check out the Beyond the 808 video. The Clarkdale wins by a mile IMHO.
I used to have one of these little heads, an while the matching 1x8 cabinet was striking visually, it left a great deal to be desired in terms of sound.
Not sure that this will be any better, given that this Marshall cabinet is from their MG mini-stacks, but at least the price is right. Something like this could make a great little on the go jam rig - leave it in the car or at a friends place... just in case.

Fender Bassbreaker 18/30 - $950
I've been waiting for one of these to be listed in range of me, not because I want one (though I do), but because I want to see where the market is going to land on these. This price is dangerously close to what you can land a used Dr. Z for, so I'm thinking that when and if more hit the used market, we'll see prices a touch lower than this.Still though - the more I think about it, the more I wonder what impact these will have on Fender Deluxe Reverb prices. Sure, different sounds, but most people are looking at these amps as "pedal platforms", so I'm curious to see how prices and demand shakes out.
Epiphone Sorrento - $700
Not entirely sure of the price here, but you certainly don't see many of these things floating around. This 1995 example has me wondering if Epiphone was any good in 1995, and I'm pretty sure the answer is "No", which makes this price a bit much to swallow.
Genz Benz El Diablo - $250, and Fender Vaporizer - $275
Does anything more perfectly highlight the value you can get if you understand what you are buying? On the one hand we have a Fender Vaporizer, a sort-of-ok amp that nobody would ever use in a band situation unless... Well, if you don't have anything nice to say...
On the other hand, we have a Diablo. For $25 bucks less you get a professional grade, channel switching, beast of an amp. Sure, it's a little worse for wear, but at this price you can forgo a knob of two.
