YouTube Stars of Guitar
The explosion of great guitar content on YouTube means there are more ways than ever to be exposed to, and lust after, new gear. Recent lineup changes on "Anderton's TV" has me thinking about what I like and don't like about particular shows, and how I absolutely don't like "internet people" (more on this later).
For my money, "That Pedal Show" is the best there currently is. Despite being a bit pigeon-holed by focusing on pedals, Dan and Mick seem to cover a wide variety of topics outside of the pedals themselves, and they have the right rapport to keep things nicely balanced between informative and entertaining.
What's most amazing about these "channels" is how much of an impact they can make on your GAS...
If I were in the position to drop four bills on a guitar, I would have scooped this one up, but sadly I'm not, having been on a pedal binge as of late.
Credit this bit of GAS to Mick and Pete on Acoustic Paradiso. So many nice small-bodied acoustic jams leaves me almost believing that if I too owned one, I'd play as well as either of those guys...

Eastwood Airline Tuxedo - $750
I don't really need another guitar, and I'm not really sure I want one either, but there is something about this guitar that is classic, subtle, and weird all at the same time.
My interest here is probably influenced by the Collings guitars played by the likes of Mick Taylor and Joey Landreth, along with the Nik Huber Krauster II owned by Dan of TPS.
I reached out to the seller, who noted in an update that they'd be interested in trading DOWN (guitar + cash). I asked what they were looking for, and they responded with "Les Paul style guitars.
Darn. My Gibson Studio is certainly not a trade down, and while my Epiphone Standard might be, I'm not in a position where I can part with it.

Seagull S6 Grand Sunburst GT - $450
I'm not normally one to care much about acoustic guitars, but this is a looker, not question about it.If I were in the position to drop four bills on a guitar, I would have scooped this one up, but sadly I'm not, having been on a pedal binge as of late.

Orange PPC 4x12 - $1000/Trade
I wouldn't normally be interested in this at all, but the seller contacted me and offered this cab, for the second time, as a trade for the Marshall DSL1-C.
While the value is certainly there in my favour, and I like the idea of having a quality 4x12, there are a couple of issues. First, this guy is over 100KM away, so a meeting would be required, and a 4x12 isn't something you put in your back pocket.
Second, and probably more importantly, I'm having second thoughts about selling the Marshall. My daughter has suddenly developed an affinity for it for some reason, and That Pedal Show's new video, featuring Steven Wilson, has Wilson getting amazing tones out of a little Hughes and Kettner Tubemeister 5 combo and a Mexican Strat.
Maybe it's time to revisit the wee Marshall with just a cable and a guitar...
