Kijijiots at it again...

When you "watch" an ad on Kijiji, you're doing it for one reason and one reason alone - you want to see how long the ad will stay up.  If you wanted to buy, you'd send an offer then and there.  But the longer the item remains unsold, the more likely the seller will accept an offer under the ask (and the more likely you can justify the purchase in your head).  Or so the thinking goes anyway...

If you do this, you'll notice that sellers fall into a few categories:

  1. The cool cat, confident that eventually the right buyer will come along.  No rush here.  Make an offer under their ask and you'll likely be ignored.  That, or they sold the damn thing, and weren't decent enough to take the ad down.
  2. The delete and re-post.  If an ad you were watching disappears and you then notice an identical ad back near the top, the seller may be getting impatient.
  3. The serial poster.  17 nearly identical ads, each in adjacent geographical territories. Same pictures, same guitar.
Today is about the second one.

Target: Gibson SGJ
Asking: $300
Offer: $250
"Selling my mint Gibson sgj guitar with Gibson bag as well. Not looking for trades at all...as you can see I am liquidating a lot of my gear to have a more simplified rig.

Please make a reasonable offer, lowballers will be ignored but again I am selling a lot of gear and I price everything for a quick sale. "

I have been following this guitar for a few weeks now, and while the price for a "real" Gibson is good, there are a few things that make this one a bit less desirable than you might think:
  1. Color:  Not the faded cherry which most associate with the shape.  Sunburst is also nice, worn brown is meh.
  2. Year: This is pre-2014.  Pickups have EMG style covers, instead of the uncovered zebra pickups and the 2014 commemorative inlay at the 12th fret.
Start at $250. Add $25 each time you move right. Think about it.
The seller says "Please make a reasonable offer."  Perfect.  You've been trying to sell this for awhile, and are open to reasonable offers.  I offer $250, maybe you come back with $275.  I counter at $250.  You tell me you'll think about it.  We settle on $250.

The logic is sound.  Sound I tell you.

SGJ man didn't get the memo:

"Lots of offers at 300. Going to pass thanks"

Lots of offers? Really? There is a lineup of people around the block begging to give you $300 and you are trying to pick the right one (or just really enjoys watching people queue around the block).
What do you mean there is only one?!?!
The worst part?  The name on his email:

"Kevin Kijiji"

A dedicated Kijiji email? WARNING! WARNING!  Danger Will Robinson!

This is someone who doesn't want their real name out there...  Inspiring. The world isn't a terrible place, but sometimes your robot needs to lose his shit (see above).

There is nothing wrong with being firm on price.  Not a damn thing.

But keep it real KK.  You're not fooling anyone.
