Trade Offer: American Special Telecaster?
I'm still waiting to meet up with Mr. Edwards. I haven't been too excited, because I remain skeptical if the meetup will ever take place. It isn't because I get a bad vibe from they guy - quite the oppostie. He's a family man who hasn't been able to make it out due to a sick kid and what I imagine are the usual responsibilities that accumulate by the weekend.
Sometimes though, that's enough to sink a deal. I the grand scheme, a guitar trade is easily pushed down the priority list when children and wives are involved.
Still, I'm holding out hope.
In the meantime, I'm still fielding offers, and yesterday one came along that had me wondering if I really wanted the Edwards...
A 2012 American Special Telecaster... I think.
The owner sent a picture of the back of the headstock and this example dates to 2012, making me think that it is an American Special. My first guess was "Highway 1" based on the 70s style logo on the headstock, but a quick search online has me thinking that Highway 1 was replaced with American Special awhile ago.
If you've read around this blog, you'll probably conclude that I'm pretty heavily a Fender guy, and this guitar has me thinking about the holes in my collection. I don't own a maple board Tele, and certainly don't own one in butterscotch - THE color of Tele colors.
The fact that this is an American made instrument was enough to give me pause. In a straight trade for the Contemporary Strat, I think I'm doing alright. If I don't love it, there seem to be enough folks out there looking for Teles to make me think I'd be ahead of the game if this became a flipper. Most desirable color for a model that never goes out of style...
Interestingly, it looks like the bridge pickup has been replaced with a SD quarter pounder - look at the size of those pole pieces if you're wondering about where the assumption comes from.
I havne't quite made up my mind, but I'm still leaning towards the Edwards. I have Fenders, and my head is in a different place right now. Also, blue.
But if the Edwards falls through...
