Happy New Year Roundup (Repost)

Another year means time for gear?

Well that was terrible, but if you're looking for comedy you're in the wrong place.  As I predicted, things after Christmas started to heat up, with fresh Christmas disappointments driving owners to sell their least cherished items so they could pursue the object of their latest affections.

Happy Hunting in the New Year.

Epiphone ES339 - $400

A few weeks ago it wasn't uncommon to see these selling for somewhere between $500 and $600.  While this may have been wishful thinking on the sellers part,  the post Christmas blues are seeing prices on these drop pretty quickly.  This example alone when from $500 to $400 in increments of $25 in about a day.

I don't think you'll see these go much lower, so if you're in the market, strike while the getting is good.  Giving that I've seen Epiphone "Dot Studios" (stripped down Epi Es335s with only one volume and tone) posted at $400 and up, this is a pretty good price for a guitar that isn't as well received as it probably should be.

Charvel DS2 Desolation - $300

We're starting to see more of these pop up, giving us the opportunity to test the latency between an Anderton's Music video review and the appearance of the noted item on Kijiji.

$300 is stupid for this one though.  Flat black and Charvel humbuckers (nope, not EMGs) mean there is not value here.  Wait until one of those pretty blue ones shows up for the same scratch and jump on it.

Edwards Les Paul Custom - $900

If you want the model number, go look it up.  I'm not your mother.  I used to live near a dedicated ESP store in Japan, and have been to the main shop in Tokyo a few times.  Edwards, one of their imprints, makes top quality stuff.  If you don't care about the name on the headstock, forgo the LP Studio and get yourself this.  You'll be getting much more guitar.

If not for the "no trades", I would have offered my Studio already.  Quite the looker.

Epiphone LP 100 - $250

I've struggled with Epiphone for a long time, but my Standard has me feeling pretty ok about them. This makes me feel other things though.  A Les Paul does not have a bolt neck, and for the same money, you could have something like this if you're patient enough.

Fender Excelsior - $225

The owner completely replaced the cab with a pine job, then gave it a pretty stunning, but simple, finish.  Stock speaker has been replaced as well, with the owner opting for a more traditional 12' as opposed to the 15'.

I'm not one for the trend towards crap tube amps, but this is have a vibe far swankier than the price tag suggests.  A cool little at home pedal platform maybe.
